CAT TROT
Cat Trot House is a contemporary interpretation of the historic American dogtrot house—a simple vernacular form in which two buildings are connected by an open breezeway to capture summer breezes before air conditioning. Rather than copying the past, this concept asks how that same organizing idea might respond to the way many of us live today.
The open breezeway becomes a four-season Cat Trot—an enclosed catio connecting a garage and a modest slab-on-grade house beneath one continuous roof. Inspired by six rescue cats and the growing popularity of catios, it's a small architectural thought experiment exploring how familiar building traditions can evolve without losing their original spirit.
